Line the eastern half of the state, western North Dakota also is extremely rural. For a majority of the land, there are little features and a fairly flat terrain.
However, far western reaches of the state have more diverse terrains.
The largest city in this portion of the state is Bismarck, at 71,000.
Other large towns include Minot, Williston, Dickinson, Mandan and Beulah.
